Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about smoke fluid, machines, and safe usage tips.

Smoke fluid, delivery and orders

What's the difference between smoke fluid and fog fluid?

None: smoke fluid, fog fluid and fog juice are different names for the same water-based liquid a fog machine heats to make visible fog. What varies between fluids is how dense the fog is and how long it hangs in the air.

Can I use Froggy's Fog fluid in my fog machine?

Yes, if it's a water-based fog or smoke machine, which covers most machines sold in the UK. Our high-density Bog Fog performs best in machines of 700 W and above. Hazers need a haze fluid instead. Tell us which machine you have and we'll confirm which fluids will work best.

Which fog fluid lasts the longest?

Swamp Juice and Backwood Bay are our longest-lasting fog fluids. Swamp Juice suits outdoor events and large spaces; Backwood Bay is built for long shows where you want beams and lighting to stay visible.

What's the best smoke fluid for thick fog?

Bog Fog is our densest smoke fluid, made for white-out and fog-out conditions in scare attractions, mazes and visual-obscurity effects. With a fog chiller it also gives the thickest outdoor ground fog.

How do I make low-lying fog?

Run a low-lying fluid through a fog machine fitted with a fog chiller: Freezin' Fog for outdoor graveyard-style ground fog, or CryoFreeze for indoor stage, studio and wedding floor effects that clear quickly.

Is Froggy's Fog smoke fluid safe?

Our fluids are water-based, non-toxic, non-flammable and odourless, made in the USA from de-ionised water and pharmaceutical-grade ingredients. A safety data sheet for every fluid is on our Chemical Safety page. Fog can trigger optical smoke detectors, so check with your venue before use.

What's the difference between fog fluid and haze fluid?

Fog fluid makes thick, visible clouds; haze fluid makes a thin, even veil that shows light beams without hiding the stage. Haze fluid such as Pro Haze Fluid or Beam Splitter is made for hazers, not fog machines.

How fast is UK delivery?

Items in stock are dispatched from our UK warehouse the same or next working day after you order. Delivery time after dispatch depends on the service chosen at checkout.

Can I return smoke fluid?

Yes, if the bottle is unopened and the seal hasn't been broken. For safety reasons, we can't accept returns of opened fluid bottles or broken seals. You have 14 days from the day your order arrives to tell us you'd like to return it, and another 14 days to send it back. Email info@froggysfoguk.com with your order number and the items you're returning. Return postage is paid by you unless the item is faulty or we sent the wrong thing. See our Shipping & Returns page for full details.

Do you sell smoke fluid in bulk?

Yes. Most fluids come in 2.5 litre and 5 litre bottles, 4 × 5 litre cases and 208 litre drums. For trade or venue pricing, email info@froggysfoguk.com or call 01342 842 383.

Scents

Can I add a scent to my fog machine?

Yes. Add half an ounce (about 15 ml) of Froggy's Fog Water Based Scent Additive to every 3.7 litres of fog fluid. It works in any water-based fog, haze, snow or bubble machine.

How long does a scent cup last?

Each Froggy's Fog scent cup gives 45+ days of constant scent in the 250 sq ft Scent Distribution System, which runs 45 to 60 days on one D-cell battery.

How long does scent spray last?

One application of a Scented Scene Spray lasts 2 to 3 days on props, costumes or walls.

What's the difference between the two scent machines?

The 250 sq ft box is battery powered and runs continuously on a scent cup. The 500 sq ft system covers twice the area, uses oil-based refills, and is scheduled from a phone or tablet app over Bluetooth.

What scents do you sell?

Nearly 60, from pleasant aromas like Fresh Linen, Vanilla and Gingerbread to horror smells like Rotting Decay, Charred Corpse and Raw Sewage. We stock the most popular scents in each format and can order any of the range on request.

Can scents be used for fire and rescue training?

Yes. Smoke and fuel scents such as Gunpowder/Smoke, Gasoline and Chainsaw Exhaust can be added to training smoke fluid to make simulated smoke more realistic.

Training smoke

Is training smoke safe to use?

Froggy's Fog training smoke is water-based, non-toxic, non-irritating, non-flammable and odourless. A safety data sheet for each fluid is on our Chemical Safety page to support your own risk assessment.

Which training smoke fluid should I use?

Use Training Smoke XD for the densest smoke and large spaces, Fire & Rescue for long-hanging, realistic smoke in search and BA training, and Training Smoke Q where smoke must clear quickly between drills.

What machine do I need for training smoke?

Any water-based fog machine will run our training smoke fluids. For regular training we supply dedicated generators, including the Firebase Prime, Firebase Highpower and Antari FT-100. Call us for a quote.

Will training smoke set off smoke detectors?

Yes, it can trigger optical smoke detectors, so isolate or cover detectors in the training area in line with your building's procedures.

What sizes does training smoke come in?

Each fluid comes in 5 litre bottles, 4 × 5 litre cases and 208 litre drums.

Can I add a smell to training smoke?

Yes. Add half an ounce (about 15 ml) of a scent additive such as Gunpowder/Smoke or Gasoline to every 3.7 litres of training smoke fluid for a more realistic exercise.

Fog machines

What's the difference between a fog machine and a smoke machine?

Nothing: they're two names for the same machine, which heats water-based fluid to make visible fog. Haze machines and low mist generators are different machines.

What size fog machine do I need?

A 400 W machine suits small rooms and mobile DJs, 900 W to 1300 W suits bars and medium stages, and 1500 W to 2000 W fills large venues and attractions. The QTFX-2000 mkII puts out about 40,000 cu ft of fog a minute.

What fluid should I use in my fog machine?

Any good water-based fog fluid. Froggy's Fog fluids suit every machine we sell: Bog Fog for dense fog in machines of 700 W and up, Swamp Juice for long-lasting fog, and Quik Blast or Velocity for fast-clearing bursts.

How long does a fog machine take to warm up?

It depends on the machine: the Eliminator VF 400 EP is ready in about 5 minutes and the VF1600 EP in about 8 minutes. Most machines then need a short reheat between long bursts.

Will a fog machine set off smoke alarms?

It can trigger optical smoke detectors, so check with your venue before use and follow its procedures for isolating detectors.
